Business models for research based tools

When thinking about starting a business, at least in the sense of an endeavor that can generate enough revenue as to maintain its core activities without external funding, one of the first steps is to lay out a plan on how to generate a net influx of cash (see five elements that make a business).

Business model are normally addressed with a framework that can quickly help determine its viability. This includes thinking about, for example, the unfair advantage, unique selling proposition, the problem being solved.

There are ways of delivering value that can be adapted for scipreneurs and science-based startups.
