Perhaps staying warm and cool is the most personal of the chapters in the book. It is not an industry, but a necessary part of life. Heating homes in winter and cooling them down in summer is how we can afford a comfortable life at various latitudes.

There are already many improvements regarding being all-electric, like heat pumps. However, the adoption is proving the be slow, and it is mostly related to policies, not personal choices. (see: 202311111406 Policies for a net zero future).
