Herein, we discuss the essential infrastructure of these systems, including automated components and decision-making algorithms, and explain how their integration determines system capabilities. Furthermore, we highlight critical applications, such as catalyst and reaction route design, performance prediction, self-optimizing reaction conditions, and scale-up of flow processes, to demonstrate their impact on synthetic and materials chemistry.
