Review on the of physical vapor deposition on imminent chemiresistive metal oxide gas sensors and their future scope

In addition to global warming being a significant concern, air pollution is the primary problem causing numerous health hazards. Monitoring equipment called as gas sensors are essential to reduce the impact of pollution. Chemiresistive-semiconductor metal oxide (C-SMO) gas sensors are extensively used for the detection of harmful gases. The surpassing qualities of these C-SMO sensors are their great sensitivity, extended lifespan, ease of use, and affordability which make them exceptional for gas sensing. The distinctive features of C-SMO gas sensors depend upon the materials properties, design, and fabrication process. This review emphasizes the importance of gas sensors, as well as their construction, operation, and wide range of applications. The review mainly focuses a detailed view on the experimental methods of different physical vapor deposition techniques for the coating of gas sensors were discussed. Metal oxide semiconductor materials which are in current trend were deliberated with their important parameters such as operating temperature, selectivity and sensitivity. Apart from various thin film deposition techniques an in site into various strategies such as heterostructure, surface modifications, etc for enhancing the gas sensing performance of chemiresistive gas sensors which are economically viable were also elaborated in a systematic way. The review summarizes the importance, challenges, future scope and potential applications of innovative gas-sensing materials, and their architectures.
