Venture capital are groups of people with excess money that are willing to invest in higher risk projects in exchange of higher returns. One of the biggest challenges with VC's is that they normally look for things that can scale, because they need to offset the risk with a large upside.

Although Not all companies need to grow exponentially, those companies that need an injection of capital to get started or to reach the next milestone, they must be able to return the money with some form of interest.
