Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view

Seeing the world from the perspective of the person we want to convince is very powerful, but it is also very hard. [@carnegie2010How to win friends & influence people] gives some examples, for example of convincing teenagers not to make a fire close to a tree. Instead of confronting them with the rules, we can acknowledge they want to have fun, and persuade them to move to a different spot, where the risk of burning a forest is lower. It is not dissimilar to Talk in terms of the other person's interests. We first make them like us, them we push our own agenda.
