Very similarly to how size exclusion chromatography works, particles can be separated based on density by using high resolution density gradients. Particularly for extracellular vesicles and mitovesicles, this may be the most promising way of reproducibly discriminate between populations of particles[@dacunzo2021Mitovesicles are a novel population of extracellular vesicles of mitochondrial origin altered in Down syndrome].
